Salvation from the Soul

Movie Review : Ratatouille

Last Friday (the same Friday when I went to that JW Mariott shit-hole), I decided to check out Ratatouille with my lady after watching the trailer. I became so interested in this movie since Pixar is doing this project and it’s about cooking! I reserved two tickets at Sharqiya Movie Theater and went there with my lady. The parkings are packed like a fucker. It’s Friday night and all the fucking foreigners and kuwaitis just don’t have shit to do, so they all decided to go to Souq Sharq and piss off LunarDream! Fuck that! Back to track, well, I got my tickets through the packed lines of families and children (I swear, this is the last time I’m going to a cartoon during the happy-family hours, I just hate kids!) and to my surprise, I found out that Cinescape has shifted my seats by a seat. You see, I reserved the 2nd and 3rd seats from the opening of the last row so I could have an empty seat adjacent to me to relax and not to be bother. The fuckers at Cienscape decided against my will that it wouldn’t be beneficial to them and shifted me and my lady seats to the opening of the row, meaning I got that first empty seat!! Anyway, while the movie started showing pretty top-notch graphics, the story seemed too adult to the kids. The dialogue, the ideas, personal principals and characters were just too grown up and the kids can’t find any character to associate with. And oh listen to this: some parents just don’t get that this movie is in ENGLISH with Arabic subtitles, and most of the kids in the theater just didn’t seem to understand a thing. Their kids seemed only familiar with Space Toon Arabic shit. I really liked the graphics and the story, though the fucked-up MOI had to do its crappy job in editing and censoring scenes they think of it as improper for the mass public. I paid KD 5 to watch a good movie, not to enjoy the cut-and-paste done by the fucking crappy editors. Though the movie was enjoyable, it seemed kind of slow-paced at some points that people seemed yawning and lost interest. I know my lady got bored at the middle because of its slow dramatic events. The major flaw about this movie is the secondary character, the protagonist boy. He’s just made to be pretty crappy and more of a weakling. I just didn’t dig him at all. Overall, this movie could be pretty good when viewed in your own personal freedom while watching a sharp unedited version of it, away from all of these little bastards I had to deal with at the movie theater. And by the way, this movie has a very good OST and you guys should get it via download only. I’d give it 3.5 stars out of 5.

Review: Sony Ericsson K810i

Yep, I just went lux and got myself a K810i after getting a stealer deal from Bico. Used for 3-4 days for only KD 85! Brands new goes for like KD 110! That’s a steal! At first, I never liked the appearance of the phone, because I had a couple of phones in my mind. I was thinking about W910i (Future), K770i (Future) or even W960 (Future). Since none of them saw the light yet, I figured that I’d better get the best phone right now and stick with it for the mean time till Sony Ericsson thinks again about making a new OS system. I admit that I was gonna get K800i, but its bulkiness and keypad buttons distribution drove me off.
Appearance:
Slim, light and bright. That’s what I can say about the size and weight of this phone. Screen size is 320×240. New keypad layout for circular steel buttons. Awful shortcut keys.
Functions:
3.2 MP camera with Xenon Flash and AF, RSS Reader, TrackID, FM Radio, Multimedia player, My Friends, HP Print, SMS/MSS/Email/Audio Message, Picture Blogging, etc.

La Brasserie Restaurant: Classy shithole

After watching a movie in Souq Sharq last night, around 10:30 PM, my lady started voicing her hunger. The Souq was pretty packed for a Friday night and no spot for an empty table. I decided to go to the restaurants near the catholic church. I took an early turn by mistake and found myself facing Al-Muthana Complex and JW Marriott. Waiting at the traffic light, I remembered that JW Marriott had a nice restraint in the ground floor called La Brasserie. Two years ago, I was checking out places for my engagement diner and I only checked out the place and took a business card for contact. As I recalled this mental note, I told my wife to skip the other places and go for this one since she wanted some fancy food.

Reception:
As we walked in the main lobby, a concierge told me they moved the restaurant from the ground floor to the 1st. He recommend the Japanese restaurant and a grill one, but I sure didn’t take the hint back then. When we walked in, the place was empty. As we were greeted by the staff, we were asked if we wanted to go for the buffet or check the men. I told my lady to check the buffet and see if she likes it. They added that ordering from the menu could takes extra time because the kitchen is still in the ground floor (?!!). They had like 5-6 buffet service containers and they seemed OK from appearance. Quzi, Spaghetti, Beef cuts, Hammor fillet, Steamed rice, Fried vegetables, Garlic fried potatoes and Salmon Crust pie. They had two selections for soup and the salad buffet was small but OK. At first I didn’t like what I saw, but when my wife looked at me plainly and said OK, I was OK let’s do this.

Salad Bar:
Salad bar had a pretty small choice of selections and very small quantities. I wonder if this because it’s Friday night? As we started int our salads, our waitress asked us if we wanted the soups and we declined, so they took them away! As we were finishing our Salads, they asked us again if we were going for another visit to the salad bar and we said no, so they started packing the bar up!!!!!

Main Buffet:
I went for the Beef round cuts, Garlic fried potatoes and the Salmon crust pie. My wife got some small portions of Quzi rice, Garlic fried potatoes and Hammor fillet. As we were into our dishes, the main staff started removing the main buffet containers, even though we only went for one visit only!!! I was like What the fuck? Out of self respect I didn’t say a word, but sat there emotionless, not knowing what to do. The food quality was alright, except the selection was pretty unwise. They even took away the spaghetti which my wife wanted to try, without asking. My mental pressure started going up. I couldn’t believe that I’m witnessing this. They started packing their shit up without seeing to our needs and acting like we’re invisible. And listen to this: As they were packing up, the main host comes up and starts playing some pop music on the speakers after we finished eating, breaking the silence!!!

Dessert Bar:
I didn’t have any appetite for their food anymore but as per my wife, the desserts and fruits were stale.

Price:
Here’s the most fucked up part of the story. The bill said KD 29.840 for two buffet diners, one bottle of water, orange juice and a 7-Up!!! The buffet diner was priced KD 11 something and we only have one visit per bar. And to deliver the final slap, the service charge was KD 3.850!!! I was charged 4 KDs for the shittiest service ever! Can you believe that? Due to their crappy food and service, they should have said “Sir, we know we got crappy food and crappy service tonight, so it’s on the house for you and the lady!”. I know I’m to blame for choosing this place and imagine, I was going to reserve a table there two years ago for my engagement dinner!!

Final Thoughts:
I’m trying to be harsh in this critique, but La Brasserie is plainly worse than it deserves. I feel relieved that I tossed this place behind my back. I’d never ever recommend this place to anyone. A piece of advice to La Brasserie Management: You should start serving turd and garbage for dishes, because only rats might have interest about your place!
Avoid due to awful service, lack of taste in food selection and over-pricing.

Note:
I will email this post to JW Marriott as a feedback to let them know what kind of an incredible unforgettable experience I had last night!!

Update: Of course, till now I didn’t receive any feedback from them, so screw them!!

Sony Ericsson W810i

W810iThe best mobile phone Sony Ericsson made till now. A walkman, FM radio, 512 MB memory card tossed in, portable speakers, EDGE, 2 MP camera with flash, Stereo head-phones with 3.5 mm jack. What more do you want? I still use this mobile phone, though I bought later newer SE models, aside from the great iPhone. This is one mobile phone to keep!! It’s already out of production!

Lobster Lake Restaurant: Lake of Death

Me and my friend, Abdullah, never went to a Chinese restaurant together, since most of what he likes is usually junk food places or sandwiches at the garages in Shuwaikh LOL. So, I decided yesterday to impress my good friend and take him to Lobster Lake Restaurant, which is located at Ras Al-Salimya, exactly at the Traffic light of the cross-section. I’ve went there maybe 3 times already and it was good, well good enough to fill the empty space that Little Dragon left behind when it sold out. So, to maintain the pact between me and Chinese food and since I did crave Chinese last night, we rushed through the typical Salmiya traffic around 2030 PM to Lobster Lake. To those who aren’t familiar with it, it used to be called Chinese Lake or Swan Lake or whatever, but they changed a while ago for no apparent reason.
The parking there is very very limited (hardly two cars can fit) and to get out you have to wrestle your way backing out through the incoming traffic, so it’s kinda of a hassle to get in and get out. The place is very small (two private cabinets, and around 4 small tables) and the A/C wasn’t working well and it was humid. Last night I found out that they actually have a bathroom!! They have a small radio player and it wasn’t on last night for no apparent reason so the environment was pretty stand still. When I asked to be seated in the private cabinet I was told that it was for families. I got pissed since I’ve always sat in the cabinet for the last 3 times I’ve been there with my friends. All of that makes them lost two full points.
Me and my buddy ordered:
  • Mixed Seafood fried rice (stiff, dry and tasteless).
  • Lobster Lake Deep fried Prawns Special (Huge stiff prawns deep fried in the thickest flour coating that made me feel like eating pieces of dry wood).
  • Fried Calamari (chewy, yet no spices added to change the fishy smell).
  • Two orders of Hot and Sour Soup (the only good thing there, and when I added a little soy sauce, it turned into a biohazard mix that you don’t want to know what it tasted it like afterwards).
  • Two Pepsi (served warm even with ice in the cups, just to let you know what kind of shitheads they are).

What more can I say? the total came out to KD 9.500! talk about major bullshit. I Feel good now since I left an awful restaurant behind my back and moving on to find a better one. When you get Indians cooking in Chinese restaurants, you usually get the typical trashy food you deserve. Two weeks ago, my wife was telling me about how her uncle was recommending this place to her (Like I don’t know about Chinese restaurants!) and I told her it was okay. When she asked me last night about it, I told her that I’d rather eat a dog than eat there again. Not worth the trip nor the time, and recommend it to taste-blinds.
